Mattress Pick-up Service

After a few years, a mattress needs to be replaced, but what do you do with it? It is large, heavy and often does not fit in the car. No worries! We will collect your old mattress from your home for free. Do you live in the following areas; Overschie, Blijdorp or Bergpolder on one of the following zip codes: 3042, 3043, 3044 EE, 3038, 3039, 3045 LS.

Objectives of the pilot

YES!Delft will conduct a pilot in June in collaboration with The Municipality of Rotterdam to study whether it is feasible to collect mattresses from people's homes. The aim is to prevent old mattresses from being thrown into the bulky waste and can no longer be processed sustainably. To make it easier, your mattress will be collected at your home for free!

For this pilot, YES!Delft is looking for citizens in the Overschie, Blijdorp and Bergpolder area, that are resident on the following zip codes: 3042, 3043, 3044 EE, 3038, 3039, 3045 LS who want to have their old mattress collected.

Why was this initiative created?

YES!Delft is working together with The Municipality of Rotterdam to recycle old mattresses. With the Pilot Mattress Pick-up Service, YES!Delft wants to investigate how mattress recycling can be enrolled throughout Rotterdam.

In the Netherlands, 1.5 million mattresses are discarded every year, of which only 35% is recycled. This means that 65% of discarded mattresses end up in incinerators, which has a huge impact on the environment. The combustion of mattresses causes significant CO2 emissions. In addition, it can lead to dangerous situations, such as spontaneous fires and damage to incinerators.

Who is behind this pilot?

The Municipality of Rotterdam works together with YES!Delft, an organization that helps entrepreneurs to set up and grow technology companies. YES!Delft is affiliated with TU Delft and Erasmus University Rotterdam and is specialized in projects focused on, among other things, a better environment, medical technology, mobility, social problems, and artificial intelligence.

You live on one of the following zip codes: 3042, 3043, 3044 EE, 3038, 3039, 3045 LS

We are now approaching the pilot on a small scale, but if it turns out to be successful, we will offer this service in more areas of Rotterdam.‍

We collect your old mattress from your home

You can hand in the old mattress at your front door. Our pick-up service will collect it from your home for free. Do you live in an apartment building or apartment complex? We pick-up the old mattress at your front door if there is an elevator. If this is not the case, make sure that you are ready on the doorstep with the old mattress at the agreed time. We will ring the bell upon arrival and then take the mattress from you, on your doorstep.

The mattress must be dry and no dirtier than normal signs of use

If the mattress is wet or heavily soiled, it cannot be recycled and you cannot participate in the free mattress pick-up service. What you can do is make an appointment for the bulky waste collection service or take the mattress to a recycling center yourself.

After the mattress has been collected, fill in a questionnaire

After collecting the mattress, we will send you a questionnaire that you can complete at your time. We want to gain insight into the progress of this pilot so that we can further roll out the service in other regions of Rotterdam in the future. We would like to hear your opinion!

Reserve a timeslot

Do you live in the correct zip code, is your mattress recyclable and are you willing to fill in a questionnaire? Then join this pilot. Click on “Reserve” and book a timeslot in which your mattress can be picked up. You will receive an email from us in which we confirm your reservation. It is important that you are at home during the agreed time slot to hand over the mattress to our pick-up service. We will ring the bell upon arrival and then take the mattress from you on your doorstep.
